Tiantong Road 198, Shanghai, China
When Mildred Li, founder of Design 333 approached me to develop hardware for the Tiantong Road project, I was quite excited. The design brief was for contemporary hardware that carried a hint of Chinese style. What developed was through a collaborative effort that resulted in our RUYI suite of hardware.
RUYI can be interpreted as “Follow your hearts desires” or "satisfied, pleased, happy, comfortable". Initially there were just a lever, a rose and a thumb turn. But as the project proceeded many other items were added to the collection. RUYI door stops, our MING design cremone bolt with a RUYI Oval Knob, and many other new designs.
Mildred’s design created a supremely comfortable, layered and multifaceted space. The project encompasses many 3500 square foot apartments as well as 20 16,000 square foot villas.
